Complte Loft Conversion

Introduction

Loft conversions offer a fantastic opportunity to expand the living space in your home without increasing its footprint. You can turn your loft into a comfortable guest room, a luxurious master suite, a peaceful office, or even a teenager’s hangout spot. The options are endless, making it easy to find the right solution for your needs.

In addition to providing extra space, a well-executed loft conversion can also increase the value of your property. It’s also a more cost-effective solution compared to building an extension or adding a basement.

What to know?

Before you start your loft conversion project, it’s essential to understand what it entails. Some conversions may require modifications to the roof to increase headroom and space. This is why it’s crucial to have a clear understanding of the project scope and requirements, including Building Regulations, planning, and design.

Part Conversion

Introduction

A part loft conversion is the ‘skeleton’ of a loft conversion, involving the installation of stairs, flooring and structured walls. This structural work forms the base of your loft conversion, which you are then free to carry on yourself! Whatever you plan to use your new space for, a partial loft conversion can save you a significant amount of money while providing you with complete reassurance that the job has been completed to a high standard

If you’re confident in DIY and have plenty of time to complete the job, a part loft conversion could be perfect for you! Doing a loft conversion yourself will save you plenty of cash and, after the initial structural work has been carried out, there’ll be no need to worry about builders and contractors in your home. Though it might be quicker for professionals to complete a loft conversion, you’ll save on labour costs and can dedicate as much time as you want to the project when it suits you.

Velux Conversion

Introduction

A Velux loft conversion is one of the simplest and cheapest solutions for extra space and works best when there is ample headroom so you can make full use of all the space available. In comparison to other forms of loft conversions, such as dormer and hip-to-gables, Velux loft conversions require considerably less construction work and is thus not as disruptive as other forms of conversions.

Do I need planning permission?

Planning permission is not always required as the structure of the roof is not altered in anyway, only the windows are added. However, if you live in a conservation or heritage area or you live in a flat, then planning permission may be required. We can provide you with free advice, help you through the planning process.

Smart Home & sound Insulation

We offer a large number of Velux windows and some of them do more than just let in some light and ventilation. It is possible to have windows that open and shut automatically powered either from the mains or by the sun. These windows also come with a rain sensor, so when the heavens open the windows will automatically close. If you live in a noisy area you can reduce noise pollution by 50 per cent with Super Sound Insulation.

Dormer Conversion

Introduction

One of the most common types of loft conversions is a dormer loft conversion. A dormer loft conversion is usually built out of the existing slope of the roof and provides a cost effective way to add extra space to your property. Some types of dormer loft conversions can result in up to 50 cubic metres of additional space, depending on the type of house and the size and style of the extension. In addition, much of the work involved can be carried out from scaffolding outside your home, making for minimal disruption when compared to most other types of home extension.

A dormer loft conversion involves the addition of a box-shaped extension onto a sloping pitched roof. The structure is positioned at a right angle to the floor and provides increased headroom and floor space.

Planning Permission

In most cases, dormer loft conversions do not require planning permission as long as they fall within the permitted development (PD) conditions for your type of house. If your home is a maisonette or flat or falls within a conservation area or heritage site then different rules apply as to permitted developments.

Hip-To-Gable Conversion

introduction

A hip to gable loft conversion is a popular option for many semi-detached or detached properties with a hipped roof, which is essentially a roof with a sloping side in addition to the slopes at the front and back. A hip-to-gable loft conversion involves transforming the slanted side of a roof into a vertical gable wall to increase headroom. These conversions are highly sought after as they maximize usable floor space by creating more headroom in areas that were previously sloped.

A hip roof and a gable roof are two different styles of roofing that are commonly used in residential and commercial construction.

Planning Permission

Most hip-to-gable loft conversions are within permitted development rules and do not require full planning permission. It is not usually necessary to get planning permission for a typical hip-to-gable loft conversion as this falls under ‘permitted developments’ allowed by homeowners.

L-shape

introduction

Popular on period properties, an L-shaped dormer loft conversion creates a large space that can usually create multiple rooms such as two bedrooms plus a bathroom, a large bedroom and bathroom or a variety of other configurations. Here, we talk about what an L-shaped dormer is, how much an L-shaped dormer loft conversion price is and what Albion Lofts can do for you.

Because of this shape, L-shaped dormers are usually only suitable for Victorian and Edwardian properties where there is a back addition at the rear to house the kitchen and bathroom. However L shaped dormers are the best way to extend this type of property, particularly if it is a mid-terrace and at the same time create a nice large space to work with.

Planning permission

L-shaped dormer loft conversions generally do not require planning permission due to L shaped loft conversion permitted development rules. However we always recommend that you check your Local Authority’s planning policy requirements as these can vary. They can also be affected if you or a previous owner has made other extensions or improvements.
